Beyond-Density Factors
Freight class is primarily based on density, but carriers may also consider stowability, handling, and liability. If any of these apply, your actual freight class may be higher than the density-based estimate.
Stowability
Does the shipment have irregular dimensions, odd shapes, or cannot be stacked?
Carriers may reclassify to a higher class for items that are difficult to store efficiently.
Handling
Does the shipment require special handling (fragile, hazardous materials, temperature-sensitive)?
Special handling requirements can increase the freight class by 1-2 tiers.
Liability
Is the shipment high-value, perishable, or theft-prone?
Higher-value or perishable items carry more carrier liability and may be classed higher.

| Class 60 | 30 - 35 PCF | Low |
| Class 65 | 22.5 - 30 PCF | Low-Medium |
| Class 70 | 15 - 22.5 PCF | Low-Medium |
| Class 77.5 | 13.5 - 15 PCF | Medium |
| Class 85 | 12 - 13.5 PCF | Medium |
| Class 92.5 | 10.5 - 12 PCF | Medium |
| Class 100 | 9 - 10.5 PCF | Medium-High |
| Class 110 | 8 - 9 PCF | Medium-High |
| Class 125 | 7 - 8 PCF | High |
| Class 150 | 6 - 7 PCF | High |
| Class 175 | 5 - 6 PCF | High |
| Class 200 | 4 - 5 PCF | Very High |
| Class 250 | 3 - 4 PCF | Very High |
| Class 300 | 2 - 3 PCF | Very High |
| Class 400 | 1 - 2 PCF | Highest |
| Class 500 | 0 - 1 PCF | Highest |
PCF = Pounds per Cubic Foot. Based on the NMFC density-based classification system updated July 2025. Lower density = higher class number = higher shipping cost.
How It Works
Enter Shipment Details
Input dimensions (L x W x H) and weight for one or more items. Import from CSV/Excel for batch processing.
Get Your Freight Class
We calculate density and map it to the correct NMFC class using the 2025 density-based scale. Risk warnings flag borderline cases.
Export & Avoid Fees
Export results to CSV. Use the correct class when booking LTL shipments to avoid costly carrier reclassification fees.
